Field Hockey: Late Goal Leads Ohio to Win
< < Back toAfter knocking on the doorstep for a majority of the second half, Ohio’s Luli Gomez Teruel hammered home the winning goal late in a 2-1 victory over Robert Morris.
With 3:24 remaining in the contest Gomez Teruel, in the right place at the right time, buried the shot assisted by Jessica Jue for the decisive tally.
The first half started off going back and forth as neither team really established any offensive rhythm. Following the first corner of the game, The Bobcats were the first team to get on the board when Bobcat senior Taylor Brown received a beautiful pass from Laura Mastro and rifled a shot past Robert Morris goalkeeper Erin McKenzie from 15 yards out.
But it took just about 8 minutes for the visitors to even the score as Jess Martin-Brown snuck one past Bobcat keeper Brittany Walker off a Patriots corner. Following this goal the ‘Cats really started to pick up the defensive pressure and began to dominate time of possession, rarely allowing the Patriots to cross into their territory.
Going into the second half Oho continued this dominance, receiving corner after corner, however the Bobcats could not convert as McKenzie made save after save and almost single-handedly kept her team in the game.
At around the 51st minute, Robert Morris began to fight back and get some opportunities of its own. The Patriots went on a stretch of eight minutes in which they managed to put up six shots – three on goal – but none would find the back of the cage.
Just when it appeared the game was headed to overtime, Gomez Tereul came through and sealed the victory for the Bobcats, now 4-3 on the season.
The Bobcats will look to carry the momentum of this win as they travel to Kent, OH for a conference matchup with the Golden Flashes of Kent State Friday afternoon.
