Washington State Community College has just announced a restructuring plan that includes laying off three employees.

The plan was approved by the Board of Trustees Monday, "to manage the decline in enrollment and the budget deficit."

Washington State has suffered a nearly 16 percent decline of students and almost 24 percent decrease of credit hours.

The restructuring plan discontinues three full-time positions and reduces one full-time and one part-time position.

The college says the reduction in workforce will be effective October 13.

A news release also indicates some academic programs may be cut: "A systematic review of low-productivity academic programs is...being planned with a recommendation expected by December 1st for presentation to the Board of Trustees in January."
