Wahama Rolls Past Waterford

The Wahama White Falcons aimed to remain unbeaten and on their pursuit of perfection Friday night as they traveled to Waterford High School to take on the Wildcats. Waterford was looking to pull off the upset in front of their hometown crowd, but the White Falcons’ offense had another thing in mind, propelling them to a 64-35 victory.
The White Falcon offense started the game with a bang. Junior running back Kane Roush took a double hand-off 65 yards on the first play from scrimmage into the Wildcat red zone. The first points of the night came courtesy of a 13-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Trenton Gibbs to junior receiver Wyatt Zuspan. The two-point conversion was successful and the White Falcons took an early 8-0 lead.
It did not take Wahama running back Zach Wamsley very much time to tack on a few more touchdowns for the White Falcons. He ran the ball twice for 131 yards that accounted for two touchdowns on back-to-back drives. These runs put the White Falcons up 22-0 late in the first quarter.
The Waterford offense fought back as the first quarter ran out and capitalized on a goal line opportunity as the second quarter began play. Fullback Hunter Munjas powered his way into the end zone from one yard narrowing the gap to 22-7 in the face of a valiant effort from the White Falcon defense.
Wahama back Kane Roush took a page out his teammate’s book and accounted for the next two Wahama touchdowns on consecutive drives and giving his team a 36-7 lead late in the first half.
As they did late in the first quarter, the Wildcat offense was able to score late in the second quarter on a run by quarterback Brian Moore. This cut the White Falcon lead to 36-14.
The White Falcon offense continued to roll in the second half and kept any potential comebacks from the Wildcats at bay. The two teams put on an offensive clinic for the game, combining for 1,007 total yards and 99 points.
Gibbs added to his Player of the Year resume by using both his arm and his legs to pile up 223 yards and 2 touchdowns for the White Falcons. Making a case for his play, Roush tore up the field for 226 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Leading the way for Waterford were Moore, who accounted for 3 touchdowns and Munjas who rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown.
Wahama will welcome Southern next week as Waterford will travel to Glouster to take on Trimble.
