A majority of schools in Athens and surrounding counties are meeting benchmarks set by the Ohio Department of Education.

80% of schools in Athens, Hocking, Morgan, Meigs, Perry, Washington, Wood and Vinton counties either meet or are above the Value Added Growth measure.

Preliminary District and School Report Card Data was released Wednesday from the department.

The data looks at the Value Added Growth and Adequate Yearly Progress results.

The Value Added Growth results look at whether grades 3 through 8 meet the expected one year growth measure.

Adequate Yearly Progress measures the development of specific sub-groups of students.

The Adequate Yearly Progress for Athens and the surrounding counties was met in 23% of the schools.

Final School Report Card Data will be released later in the year.
