Athens Co. Voters Pan Two Of Three Levies
< < Back to athens-co-voters-pan-two-three-leviesAthens County voters decided the fate of three proposed tax levies this election day, with just one levy passing.
Athens City School District levy was the lone levy to receive approval, with nearly twice as many votes in favor of the levy as compared to votes against.
Voters in the district cast 8,073 votes in favor of a renewal and increase tax levy, while 4,295 voted against it.
The levy was for the purpose of providing for the emergency requirements of the school district.
This levy should generate an estimated $3.7 million for the school district over the next five years.
This is a .5 mill increase from last time.
A replacement levy for Nelsonville streetlight maintenance was voted down, with 701 votes against and 572 votes for the levy.
The 1.5 mill levy would have generated roughly $70,000 for streetlight updates.
The levy would have funded new LED light bulbs to replace old streetlight bulbs.
The proposed Trimble Local School District tax levy has been narrowly defeated with 925 votes against and 816 votes in favor.
Both residents of Athens and Morgan counties voted down the additional tax levy which would have been used for general permanent improvements.
