Ohio Volleyball Ends Season on Positive Note
< < Back to ohio-volleyball-ends-season-positive-noteA late-match comeback was not enough for the Fighting Irish as Ohio Volleyball defeated Notre Dame in 5 sets Friday.
“I was really proud of our team to win in five. You know we were up 2-0 and that happened last weekend. I felt like we grew a lot in seven days if that is even possible,” stated Head Coach Ryan Theis.
The teams produced very close battles in the first two games, but the Bobcats came away with consecutive victories, both with the score of 25-23.
Sets three and four belonged to the Fighting Irish as they finished the games with scores of 25-15 and 25-21.
The finale proved to be a hard fought battle for both Ohio and Notre Dame. The two teams went point for point with one another up until the 11th score. Ohio then scored 4 unanswered points to ultimately seal the victory.
Four Bobcats finished the night with their total number of kills in double digits. Chelsea Bilger led the way with a game high of 18. Kelly Lamberti and Serena Warner produced 12 kills each, and Karin Bull finished with 10.
Abby Gilleland completed the night with 46 assists, while Meredith Ashy lead the Bobcats defensively with 23 digs.
“I thought it was a great ending to a really good season,” said Theis. “I am so proud of this team and what they have accomplished with winning a MAC championship. We leave our fate in the committee’s hands and the odds are slim (to earn an NCAA Chamionship berth), but it’s always nice to end on a winner.”
Unless Ohio Volleyball is awarded an at-large bid in the Selection Show for the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship, this game will have been the conclusion of its season. The Selection Show will take place Sunday at 4 p.m.
