Hockey: Ohio Gets Swept By Penn State
< < Back toThe Bobcats once again fell to the Nittany Lions Saturday night in a much tighter match up and exciting game. Ohio lost 5-3 with Penn State stepping it up in third period. The score was tight for most of the match, but the Bobcats just couldn’t keep the Nittany Lions at bay on Penn State’s home turf.
The first two goals on the night were scored in rapid succession, one for each team. Ohio’s Derek Rahme scored the first goal of the night, but Penn State responded with a goal of their own just 30 seconds later. The score remained tied for only a few minutes in the first until Penn State came back with another goal, giving them the lead. The first period, as well as the other periods, were plagued with a lot of rough play coming from Ohio. Yet despite numerous penalties, the Bobcats managed to kill the time without bleeding goals.
Shortly into the second period, team captain Tyler Pilmore tied it up for the Bobcats when he made a stellar rebound opportunity. The score remained tied for quite some time, as the teams battled back and forth for most of the second period and time ran out with the teams tied, 2-2, going into the third period.
Ohio took the lead just seconds into the third period when Brett Agnew scored on a breakaway. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, this would be their last goal of the night. Penn State proceeded to fire off three goals in the third period to take the match and sweep the weekend.
Ohio will be coming back home to Bird Arena for Sibs weekend when they take on Kent State. The puck drops on Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
