< < Back toThe Alexander Lady Spartans finished the third quarter on a 7-0 run in the final 90 seconds. That was the swing of the pendulum that shifted the Lady Spartans all of the momentum. The Lady Spartans pulled off the first round upset over the Lady Buckeyes of Nelsonville-York by the final of 41-38. The game was a difference of two halves and it showed tremendously.
In the second half the Lady Spartans scored 32 of their 41 points on the night. Their defense stepped up to the task equally as they held the Lady Buckeyes to four points in the third and eighteen in the entire second half.
Ally Malone hit four huge three pointers in the second half that allowed the Lady Spartans to capitalize on their defensive success. As the game started to wind down they were able to hit free throws, as they were 7-of-10 from the charity strike. Just as Coach Hinton talked about before the game, they needed to shut down Shelby True and Madison Davis.
True was held to only five points and five rebounds. Davis made her presence a little more known as she had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The first half was a completely different ball game. The Lady Spartans had nine points throughout the entire first half. They shot 4-of-23 from the field, a paltry 17 percent. The Lady Buckeyes finished the half with 20 points of their own and started the game on a 10-2 run.
