Muskingum University Theatre Presents Sam Shepard Classic
< < Back toThe Muskingum University Communication, Media and Theatre Department will open its production of Sam Shepard's award-winning play, True West, on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 8 p.m. in the Sandra Wolfe Thompson Theatre.
Directed by Professor of Communication Dr. Jerry Martin, the cast includes Sean Q. Smith as Austin, Jordan Estose as Lee, David Bailey as Saul Kimmer and Linda Thieroff as Mom.
One of Shepard's most celebrated and performed plays, True West examines the relationship between Austin, a screenwriter, and his estranged older brother Lee, a thief and drifter.
Austin is house-sitting for their mother and there he is confronted by Lee. The screenplay Austin is pitching to Hollywood gets taken over by Lee, and the brothers find themselves forced to cooperate in the creation of a story that will make or break both their lives.
Their conflict creates a heated situation in which their roles in life are reversed, and each man finds himself admitting that he somehow always wished he were in the other's shoes.
True West will be performed Feb. 20 through Feb. 23, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m.
Tickets will be available at the door. Muskingum University students, faculty and staff are admitted free with their Muskingum identification card.
