Ohio Baseball Drops Season Opener
< < Back to ohio-baseball-drops-season-openerThe Ohio Bobcats baseball team fell behind early and could not catch up, losing to the Belmont Bruins, 5-1 in Ohio’s season-opener in Nashville, Tenn.
Belmont jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and held onto the lead with stellar pitching.
Starting pitcher Austin Coley pitched five innings, struck out six and did not allow a hit.
In the first inning, Belmont had a lead-off single followed by four consecutive two-out singles to put the team up 3-0.
The Bruins would not score again until the fifth inning, when two consecutive two-out doubles made it 4-0.
In the sixth inning, the two-out troubles hurt Ohio again. The ‘Cats allowed a two-out single followed by three straight walks to make it 5-0.
Ohio would finally get on the board in the eighth inning after Ben Otto led off the inning reaching on an error. After two quick outs, the Bobcats had two singles to bring Otto around to make it 5-1.
Ohio starting pitcher Jake Miller went five innings and allowed four runs and 10 hits.
The game is the first in a double-header with the second game being played against Valparaiso later in the day.
