The Ohio University wrestling team defeated Campbell on Sunday, 36-5. This marked the Bobcats’ fifth consecutive win, their longest streak since the 2009-2010 season.

Campbell won the first two matches to take an early 6-0 lead. Ohio proceeded to win the next eight matches and pull away with the victory.

The match was filled with highlight reel plays for the Bobcats. Harrison Hightower (165 lbs.) achieved his third consecutive first period pin in his match against Campbell’s Paul Duggan. The pin doubled the Bobcats’ lead, extending the gap to 18-6. Hightower’s personal record is now 20-15.

Redshirt freshman No. 11 Cody Walters (174 lbs.) continued to lead the team with a 4-0 win over Taylor McGriffen. Walters leads the team with a 30-2 record and the win was his 11th straight.

Michael Duckworth (184 lbs.) pinned Matthew Cox to get his second consecutive pin in his second start of the season. He is now 10-7 overall.

No. 15 Phil Wellington (197 lbs.) defeated John Merickel, 6-1, and Campbell suffered a one-point team deduction in the match. This gave Ohio a 30-5 lead going into the final match.

Heavyweight Jeremy Johnson ended the match strong with a first period pin over Joe Nolan. Johnson is now 28-8 and ranked No. 14 overall.

The win extended the Bobcats’ record to 9-5 with one dual match remaining before Mid-American Conference championships and NCAA championships. They take on Cleveland State and Gardener-Webb on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 1 pm. The matches will take place in Cleveland.
