Photo Exhibit Commemorates National Mourning Day
< < Back to photo-exhibit-commemorates-national-mourning-dayAn art exhibit dedicated to the Civil Rights Movement will be displayed on Ohio University's campus this week.
The photos will be on display during the National Day of Mourning, which is held in memory of Martin Luther King Jr.
Photographer Ken Steinhoff was a student at Ohio University during the Civil Rights Movement in the late 1960s.
"He observed people in the community and took lots of photos of that experience, so he has donated between three to four thousand pictures to the Athens County Historical Society Museum and we are thrilled to have them," says Ron Luce, director of the Athens County Historical Society and Museum.
The exhibit will be held in Walter Hall Rotunda tomorrow from 6 to 9:30 P.M.
"There was a major upheaval in this country as 100 years after the Civil War, a group of people were still trying to get the same freedoms that everybody else had," Luce said.
It will be an opportunity for students to get a glimpse into an important part of American history.
More information about the exhibit is available on the Athens County Historical Society's website.
