Ohio Elections Officials Offer Early Voting Changes
< < Back to ohio-elections-officials-offer-early-voting-changesLocal elections officials in Ohio are recommending expanded weekend hours during presidential and gubernatorial election years.
The Ohio Association of Election Officials suggested the changes to legislative leaders and the state's elections chief in a letter on Wednesday.
Ohioans can cast an early ballot in person or by mail without giving any reason.
The bipartisan group's proposal eliminates the handful of days when a person can register and then immediately vote. Ohioans could vote early in-person ballots on three weekend days before a presidential election. Voting would take place on two Saturdays during gubernatorial election years.
Last year, early voting was allowed only on the final weekend before the November election.
Rules around Ohio's early voting sparked disputes at the Statehouse and legal challenges leading up to the 2012 election.
