On this edition of Conversations from Studio B, WOUB Director and General Manager Tom Hodson talks with Baseball Hall of Fame writer Paul Hagen.

Hagen is to be honored at the National Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Weekend July 27–28 in Cooperstown, N.Y., for his tireless dedication to sports journalism.

In December 2012, Hagen also won the J.G. Taylor Spink Award by the Baseball Writer’s Association of America.

Hagen’s 40-plus year career in sports writing has landed him in Philadelphia, Pa., where he currently writes for MLB.com.

Hodson and Hagen discuss Hagen’s roots at the Ohio University Post and the Athens Messenger, the importance of honing one's craft through real world experience and the changes social media has brought to the field of sports journalism.

“You can’t always be the most talented person, but you can certainly be the hardest working person. That’s in your control," said Hagen. "So that’s what I always tried to do, I always just tried to make sure that when I went to sleep at night, I knew that I did the best job I could that day."
