Building A 21st Century Economy Through Sustainability
< < Back to building-21st-century-economy-through-sustainabilityOn this edition of Conversations from Studio B, host Tom Hodson talks with Bob Deans, the associate director of communications and chief spokesperson for the National Resources Defense Council.
Deans has served as White House correspondent for Cox Media, chief Asia correspondent for the Atlantic Journal Constitution, as well as the president of the White House Correspondent’s Association.
Deans has also authored a number of books dealing with environmental issues, his latest is entitled, Reckless: The Political Assault on the American Environment.
Hodson and Deans discuss the challenge of covering congressional politics in an increasingly partisan climate, the difference between journalism and advocacy, and the issue of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, in our area and beyond.
"We cannot build a successful twenty-first century economy on the fossil fuels of the past – we can’t do it. We need to invest in efficiency, so we can do more for less. And we need to invest in wind, solar and other kinds of cleaner, safer more sustainable fuels," said Deans.
Deans was in Athens to speak with students at the Voinovich Center on the campus of Ohio University.
