A Night At The Opera, OU Style
< < Back to night-opera-ou-styleThe Ohio University School of Music will present the annual Opera Theater Scenes concert this Friday, April 12, featuring a variety of operatic highlights and scenes from lyric theater.
Titled "Songs of Travelers," the performance will take place at the Ridges Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
Operatic highlights from Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci and Massenet’s Cendrillon will share the evening with lilting melodies from Kreiger’s Side Show and Weill’s Street Scene, among many others.
Students participating in the Opera Theater class will offer their semester-ending performance. Also on tap for the performance are 11 scenes from the widest variety of lyric theater.
"I love the mix of Frank Loessor with Engelbert Humperdinck and Jacques Offenbach," said Philip Christiansen, visiting professor of Voice and Opera/Music Theater. "I think it allows students to find an expressive outlet specifically appropriate to their skills and experiences."
Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the door at The Ridges Auditorium or in advance at the Memorial Auditorium Box Office. Ohio University students will be admitted free with a valid I.D., courtesy of Arts for Ohio.
