Historic WV Park Opens In May
< < Back to historic-wv-park-opens-mayBlennerhassett Island Historical State Park is preparing to open for the 2013 season.
Late spring rains and the June derecho reduced attendance in 2012. But park superintendent Matt Baker says that the 2012 season was still a positive one.
The park is scheduled to open May 1.
It features a recreation of the mansion built by Irish aristocrat Harman Blennerhassett, who settled on the island in the Ohio River in 1798.
Blennerhassett later was accused of plotting with Aaron Burr to establish an empire in the Southwest and fled the island.
The park has added nature hikes to the activities for the 2013 season. The interpretive hikes will be offered on the first Saturday of each month from June through October.
