The MAC league office announced Monday that Ohio University women’s basketball player Mariah Byard earned a spot on the 2012-13 Mid-American Conference Academic Team with a GPA of 3.843.

This is the second season Byard, a sophomore, has been named to the Academic All-MAC team. She is one of 12 student-athletes from seven league schools to earn the honor.

The honor is for student-athletes who excel in academics and athletics. Students must have a 3.20 cumulative GPA and participate in a minimum of 50 percent of their games to qualify.

Byard, a guard for the Bobcats, is a nursing major, and was named to the Dean’s List in the 2012 fall semester. She started six of the 24 games she played and averaged 6.3 points per game, ranking her fifth on the team in scoring.
