An army of volunteers is expected to flood the roadside of U.S. Route 33 on Saturday as part of the nationwide Great American Cleanup Campaign.

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is teaming up with Keep Ohio Beautiful and Keep Southeast Ohio Beautiful.

Volunteers will meet at the Wayne National Forest headquarters in The Plains.

Registration starts 7:30 a.m. and cleanup efforts will last from 8 a.m. until noon.

ODOT said it spends about $4 million each year picking up trash along highways and interchanges.

It said that's money that could be spent on other things like equipment or highways repair if more people did their part to keep the highways clean.
