Ohio Senate Panel Passes Budget
< < Back toA state budget that revamps Gov. John Kasich's school funding plan has been passed by a Republican-led Ohio Senate panel.
The Senate Finance Committee accepted a host of changes Wednesday to the more than $61 billion, two-year spending plan. A full Senate vote is expected Thursday.
The proposal would boost state spending on K-12 education by more than $717 million compared with the current budget, which ends June 30.
Schools would see an additional $141.6 million in direct state aid under the Senate plan, compared with the House-passed funding formula in its budget.
The Senate's version of the budget also swaps Kasich's proposed income tax cut in favor of tax relief for small businesses.
Democratic amendments to direct more money to food banks and local governments failed to pass.
