Marshall University has been chosen to help implement a program to prepare high school students for advanced training and careers in energy and power.

The Southern Region Education Board's Advanced Career program has enlisted Marshall faculty to work with the West Virginia Department of Education to launch four courses to that were designed by teams from universities and high schools in partnership with energy experts. Participating students will learn to apply mathematical and scientific concepts, and will use technology and engineering to solve real-world problems found in the energy and power industry.

Engineering professor Richard Begley is directing the project at Marshall. He says the field of energy and power was selected because of its importance to West Virginia's economy.
