Man Gets 75K In Civil Rights Settlement

A Huntington man has reached a $75,000 civil rights settlement after he said police officers seized his video camera and erased its footage.
Joseph Pniewski said the officers violated his rights in September 2011. He said they took his video recording and erased footage of them searching a vehicle.
The city denied the allegation in a court filing, but agreed to settle the case with no admission of wrongdoing.
District Judge Robert C. Chambers approved the settlement Thursday.
One of Pniewski's attorneys said that while it was not part of the settlement, the police department has mandated officer training on the First Amendment and obstruction.
