Police are searching for an armed bank robber who stole an undisclosed amount of money from the East State Street Chase Bank in Athens Monday.

The bank was robbed around 2:30 p.m. Monday. A suspect is described as being a white male in his late-30s, early 40s, wearing a blue ballcap, sunglasses, a light tan shirt and jeans. He was last seen fleeing the bank eastbound away from town on foot.

The media relations office for JPMorgan Chase told WOUB that they weren't aware that there had been a robbery at any of the Chase locations and thus could not provide comment.

According to the Athens Police Department, the man entered the Chase Bank around 2:50 p.m. and approached the teller demanding money, said Athens Police Officer Ron Brooks. The man reportedly displayed a handgun during the robbery.

Police were able to gather a description of the man through the bank's video surveillance and are investigating whether nearby business' security cameras caught him running on East State Street.

Police say the weapon in the picture above appears to be a silver semi-automatic pistol.

The amount of money taken by the suspect is undisclosed currently, pending investigation.

The last bank robbery in Athens was in early July, when Emmanuel Arocho entered the People's Bank on East State Street and left with over $3,000.
