SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) — An inmate who escaped from the Star Community Justice Center in Franklin Furnace last week is back in custody.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty Donini says Jeremy Hay, 32, of Oak Hill, fled the center on foot last Friday afternoon.

He was serving time at the center for two counts of theft. He started his sentence on June 25.

Sheriff Donini says detectives received information that Hay might be found at two different locations in Scioto County.

At the second location, his mother’s house on Bussey Road in Wheelersburg, Hay was taken into custody, but not until detectives spent 15 negotiating with family members through a locked door.

Hay has been charged with escape along with a parole holder out of Jackson County.
