Ohio Soccer Gets First Win At Eastern Kentucky, 5-1
< < Back to ohio-soccer-gets-first-win-eastern-kentucky-5-1The Ohio soccer team picked up its first victory of the season and the Aaron Rodgers era on Sunday, defeating the Eastern Kentucky Colonels on the road, 5-1.
Ohio (1-2-1) fell behind early when Kristan Paynter found the back of the net for Eastern Kentucky (0-4-0) in the ninth minute. But after that, the Bobcats’ defense controlled the Colonels’ attack, limiting them to four shots and two on goal.
The first Ohio goal came in the 23rd minute when freshman Mollie Whitacre scored the first goal of her Ohio career on a Holly Harris assist.
Ohio and Eastern Kentucky went into halftime tied at one, but the Bobcats outscored their opponent, 4-0, in the second half. Carly Manso, Lexi Milesky and Maggie Murnane contributed to the Bobcats’ scoring attack, each scoring their first goal of the season. Manso also distributed one assist and led the team with four shots and two shots on goal.
Ohio goalie Mattie Liston started her second game of the season and made one save while allowing one goal.
Ohio outshot the Colonels, 15-11, and had 11 shots on goal. The other Ohio goal came on an own goal in the 62nd minute.
The Bobcats play another road match against Niagara on Friday, Sept. 6. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
