An Athens based nonprofit organization was recognized for its excellence in helping festivals become zero waste events in Appalachian Ohio.

Rural Action and the Appalachia Ohio Zero Waste Initiative (AOZWI) received the 2013 Non-Profit Organization Award from keep Ohio Beautiful.

The award recognized its work with festival organizers to make several southeast Ohio festivals zero waste.

The Non-profit Organization Award honors nonprofit, civic, or community organizations for excellence in litter control, beautification, or recycling.

In the coming months, AOZWI will be servicing several events in Athens and Hocking Counties including the Pawpaw Festival and the Appalachian Color in the Hills Festival.

The non-profit offers services ranging from general consulting to providing all of the management, equipment and resources needed to make a zero waste event.
