Ohio’s Elections Chief Testifies For Federal Panel< < Back to
Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted is testifying before a federal panel looking at best practices for presidential elections.
The elections chief describes the Friday testimony in Cincinnati as a chance to brag about how Ohio handled last year's general election. The Republican tells The Plain Dealer in Cleveland that Ohio's position as a scrutinized swing state presents some extra challenges, but that Ohio didn't have some of the problems that arose in other areas.
Not everyone shares Husted's positive view of how the election was handled. The Democratic Cleveland lawmaker running against Husted next year accuses him of backing changes that suppress votes. An email from Sen. Nina Turner to her supporters noted the last election included battles over early voting days and counting provisional ballots.
