The Rio Grande RedStorm (1-6, 0-5) lost their fourth straight game 25-23, 27-25, 25-20 to the St. Catharine Patriots in straight sets.

After losing a close first set, the RedStorm and Patriots were deadlocked at 22-22 late in the second set. They went back-and-forth to reach 25 all. But the Patriots took the next two points to win the set.

Rio Grande seemed to be cruising in third set when the RedStorm led 15-6. However, St. Catharine went on a 14-0 run to take a five-point lead that proved to be devastating for the RedStorm. The Patriots took five of the last 10 points to win the set and the match,

“Not having experience is not an excuse anymore,” said Rio head coach Billina Donaldson.

The RedStorm have a young team but Donaldson said she feels that they are better than half teams they have played and experience is not an excuse.

Betsy Schramm led the RedStorm offense with 11 kills, while Nicole Ogg led the defensive effort with 16 digs. Kayla Briley added 23 assists.

Rio Grande will look to end its losing streak when it plays host to eigth-ranked Georgetown College on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
