The Tri-Valley Scotties will travel to New Lexington on Friday for a week 5 matchup against the Panthers. The MVL has proven to be a tough conference with several contenders through the first half of the season.

At 4-0 in the conference, Maysville has emerged as the early front-runner. Tri-Valley sits right behind the Panthers at 2-0 in league play. Seven of the nine teams in the league have .500 records or better through four weeks.

Both the Tri-Valley and New Lexington have 2-2 records, but Tri-Valley is undefeated in the conference. The Panthers are 1-2 in the conference after a loss to Crooksville last week. Tri-Valley defeated the Ceramics convincingly, by a score of 42-7 in week 3.

“We are going to run our offense and play as hard as we can on defense,” New Lexington coach Bill Nutt said. “We will put together a better game than we did last week.”

Tri-Valley is coming off a 52-7 loss to a tough Zanesville team. Nutt commented that the loss showed Tri-Valley’s weaknesses, and that his team worked that much harder this week to get better.

The Panthers main concern this week is the Tri-Valley run game.

“They are big up front and have a good running back,” Nutt said. “We know they are going to run at us, and we are going to do the best we can to hold it up at the line of scrimmage.”

Over the past nine meetings, Tri-Valley holds the series edge, 5-4. A lot is riding on the matchup for both teams, as is the case every week in the MVL.
