Hockey: Ohio Finishes Perfect At ACHA Showcase
< < Back to hockey-ohio-finishes-perfect-acha-showcaseThe Ohio club hockey team completed a perfect weekend in Mentor, Ohio, at the ACHA Showcase by defeating the Niagara Purple Eagles, 4-3, on Sunday.
The victory made the Bobcats 3-0 at the showcase, with two wins coming against teams ranked among the top 20 in the country. The team also allowed only four goals in those three games, the lowest of any of the 16 teams at the showcase.
Michael Harris led the way for Ohio in its final game, scoring twice; once 1:27 into the third period to break a 2-2 tie and then again on the power play to put the ‘Cats up by two goals.
The latter came on the power play, the team’s second tally with the man advantage after Brett Agnew scored at 15:22 of the second period.
Logan Pfeffer earned both assists on Harris’ goals, his first point of the season and first as a Bobcat.
Defenseman Mike Kretz opened the scoring in the game at 2:21 of the first frame. It was his second goal of the season and the second day in a row he put the puck into the opponent’s net.
Goalie Aaron Alkema made 19 saves en route to his third straight win in his fourth consecutive start in net for Ohio.
Ohio will return home from its successful weekend and begin preparation for its upcoming series with Canisius College at Bird Arena. The Bobcats’ first game against the Griffons is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m.
