RedStorm Top West Virginia Tech, 1-0
< < Back to redstorm-top-west-virginia-tech-1-0Rio Grande gained its ninth victory in a non-conference match against West Virginia Tech Tuesday night. Kasey Crow’s single goal lifted the RedStorm 1-0 over the Golden Bears.
Crow scored off an assist by freshman midfielder, Melissa Dickerson with four minutes remaining in the first half. Crow now leads Rio with 20 goals and four assists in less than two seasons, beating former RedStorm player Beth Hoffman, who ended her career with 18 goals and eight assists.
Rio’s offensive controlled the pace of the first half, despite the unbarring, chilly weather.
As the second half approached, neither side of the field could gain an advantage for the remainder of the game.
Rio outshot the Golden Bears 14-11 and RedStorm goalkeeper Allison Keeney recorded six saves for Rio, marking her seventh shutout of the season.
“Overall the game was very scrappy,” coach Callum Morris said. “It wasn’t a comfortable win by any stretch of the imagination but we did what we needed to do to secure that win.”
Rio travels to University of the Cumberlands (1-6, 1-14) on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
