Former Athens Resident To Perform Benefit Concert

Koon will accompany two soloists on the piano during a benefit concert on Friday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. at Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill in Alexandria, Va. Proceeds will assist with U.S. medical aid to the Philippines.
Koon is a graduate of the Ohio University School of Music. He received a bachelor of music degree from OU in 1987 and a master of music degree in 1992, both in music education and organ performance. Koon is an organist, pianist and saxophonist.
While at OU, Koon participated in many ensembles, including the OU Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra and Jazz I, and was accompanist for the Singing Men of Ohio. He recently completed his 35th and final year in the Ohio University Summer Band.
A resident of Cincinnati, he now is director of music at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Newport, Ky., and organist at Rockdale Temple. Koon has performed with members of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Cincinnati Opera.
Koon has completed all course work for a doctor of musical arts degree at the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music, where he is an organ and piano instructor.
The fundraiser is being sponsored by the National Federation of Filipino American Associations and the Philippine Nurses Association of Metropolitan Washington D.C. Tickets are $25, and reservations can be made by contacting Nora Mendoza at (703) 765-8474.
