A Shift of the Paradigm: Highs and Lows of Accessibility Awareness
< < Back to shift-paradigm-highs-and-lows-accessibility-awarenessThe October episode of CONVERSATIONS FROM STUDIO B features Carolyn Lewis, Robin Brigante, and Steve Patterson from the Athens City Commission on Disabilities discussing the changes that happened when Dr. Jenny Nelson, a professor at Ohio University, involved her graduate class in doing research on what it is like living with a disability in Athens. After four years of the Challenged by Choice and Disability Speaks event, this was the first time ever students participated in the disability simulations.
Athens City Commission on Disabilities is also celebrating its 10-year anniversary; they recap the retreat for the future goals of the commission, problems that still exist in disability awareness, and the long way to go in accessibility.
Coming up on the November installment of CONVERSATIONS FROM STUDIO B, you will hear the students share their experiences. Carolyn Lewis, Robin Brigante, and Steve Patterson will talk with Dr. Jenny Nelson, and students in her Research and Methods class about their involvement in Challenged by Choice. The students are helping to lead the way in promoting education, involvement, and awareness of mental and physical disabilities in the community. If you have questions or comments on this topic, please submit them to Carolyn Lewis, lewisc3@ohio.edu by 9 p.m. Monday, November 18.
