Rio Grande Extends Winning Streak To Three
< < Back to rio-grande-extends-winning-streak-threeThe Rio Grande RedStorm (13-15, 6-11) extended their winning streak to three with a five-set road victory over Kentucky State Thorobreds.
The first set saw the score tied at 12-12 halfway through the game. The RedStorm took 13 of the last 15 points to take the first 25-14. Rio Grande carried its momentum into the second set, leading throughout most of the game and took a 2-0 lead with the 25-20 victory.
The third was a different story for the RedStorm. The Thorobreds never trailed in the set and crushed the RedStorm’s momentum with a 25-18 third-set victory.
The fourth frame was the most contested of the match. The two teams battled throughout the set. The RedStorm, however, had match point with the score at 24-23. The Thorobreds had different thoughts and took the final three points to force a fifth set.
Kentucky State jumped out to a 4-1 lead early in the final frame and eventually held an advantage of 11-9 over the RedStorm late in the all-deciding game. Rio Grande made a comeback and trailed by just one point with the score at game at 13-12 Kentucky State. The RedStorm finished strong taking the final three points to take the set, 15-13, and the match.
The RedStorm offense was led by Autumn Snider and Betsy Schramm with 14 kills apiece. Kayla Briley added 42 assists and Nicole Ogg added 21 digs on defense.
Rio Grande will finish up its regular season schedule Thursday when the RedStorm take on Shawnee State in a Mid-South Conference showdown at 7 p.m.
