The Marietta men’s hoops team remained undefeated today after a 91-75 win at Denison University. The team is now 4-0 and playing solid basketball. The Pioneers had five different players in double digit scoring, and shot over 51 percent from the floor.

Denison kept the game relatively close for most of the first half. Eddy Grenert and Andy Stegman knocked down a couple of big threes near the end of the first half to get Marietta going. The Pioneers entered the locker room up 51-37. They maintained a double-digit lead most of the second half, and even pushed the lead to as much as 19 points in the second half. The Big Red tried to make a push late in the game, but it was to late.

Marietta’s offense was on last night. Dollman, Hammond, Davis, Stegman, and Grenert all were in double digit scoring today. Stegman and Grenert were both big off the bench today. Grenert had 15 points on 7-of-11 from the floor. Stegman had 13 points, and was 3-of-4 from deep. Marietta’s offensive numbers were much improved from the below average shooting night at Waynesburg on Wednesday night.

All five starters from Denison had double digit scoring, but they didn’t get much help from the bench. No bench player for the Big Red had more than 4 points. Marietta’s depth once again showed itself as a team strength.

Marietta has proved itself an early contender for the Ohio Athletic Conference championship. The team heads home to take on the College of Wooster Wednesday.
