Inmate Found Dead at SEORJ
< < Back to inmate-found-dead-seorjAn inmate at Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail was found dead in his cell early Friday morning in an apparent suicide.
SEORJ Warden Jeremy Tolson confirmed Monday that Danny Wallace, 38, of Nelsonville, was found hanging from a sheet in his cell by a corrections officer at approximately 5:15 a.m. Friday.
“It’s unfortunate for the family. It’s unfortunate for everyone involved,” Tolson said while in the waiting room area of SEORJ.
Wallace was arrested and charged with assault and domestic violence following an incident at his Hocking County home on Tuesday, Nov. 26. When taken to the jail, Wallace requested a single cell instead of being placed with the general population, Tolson noted.
Tolson said Wallace gave no indication of being suicidal when brought to jail.
“We have policies in place when it’s been identified they’re at risk and they are placed on (suicide watch). In this type of situation, there was no indication to put him on this type of precaution. There was no indication this gentleman was suicidal,” he said.
Correction officers check on every inmate every hour, Tolson noted.
