The Cumberlands Snaps Rio’s Win Streak
< < Back toThe Rio Grande RedStorm received their first loss of 2014 Thursday night as they fell behind the Cumberlands Patriots 104-89 in a conference matchup. This loss also pulled Rio Grande away from its perfect travel record and led it to a 1-2 Mid-South Conference record so far this season.
With a mere four lead changes throughout the entire game and the largest lead by Rio Grande being one point, this first night of conference play pushed the near-perfect RedStorm into a 12-3 record.
The RedStorm were led by Sarah Bonar, who had a team- and game-high 32 points, 12 of which being made from the free throw line. Brianna Thomas also put up team-high numbers, with seven assists and seven steals. Thomas also put up an impressive 31 points alongside Bonar.
Brooke Marcum and Bonar led Rio Grande with seven rebounds apiece as well.
The Patriots were led by Brooke Forsythe, who scored a team-high 25 points. Lynnae Lampkins led with eight assists and Julie Haye pulled down a total of 10 rebounds.
This game gave the Cumberlands its first MSC win, making for a 1-1 record.
The RedStorm will look to redeem themselves as they travel to Georgetown College this Saturday, Jan. 2. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
