Ohio Wrestling dominated Northern Illinois, 33-9, for its first Mid-American conference win of the season.

The Bobcats won five consecutive matches to take an 18-0 lead to kick off the dual. The Huskies rallied and drew the score within nine, but a pin by heavyweight Jeremy Johnson stifled Northern Illinois’s chance at comeback.

Ohio then went on to win the final two matches of the meet to secure the victory.

Harrison Hightower, 165 pounds, Kagen Squire, 133, and Johnson all contributed pins for the Bobcats.

All-American Cody Walters, 174, took the mat for only the second time this season due to injury. He defeated the Huskies’ Matt Mougin 3-1. Walters is currently ranked seventh in the nation according to InterMatWrestle.com.

Johnson also returned after medically defaulting out of his last match of the Southern Scuffle last week.

The win is Ohio’s second home victory of the season as they continue to remain undefeated in the Convocation center.

The victory is also Ohio’s seventh consecutive defeat over Northern Illinois.

The Bobcats will continue MAC competition in their next match, when they travel to Central Michigan on Jan. 17.
