< < Back to ohio-overpowers-south-dakota-stateThe Ohio Bobcats wrestling team dominated South Dakota State 32-6 in their first meet of the day on Saturday. The Bobcats cruised to victory thanks to back-to-back pins from heavy weight Jeremy Johnson and KeVon Powell.
The Bobcats started the match strong with early wins from Ryan Garringer, 184, and Phil Wellington, 197. Those wins, followed by the falls by Johnson and Powell, gave Ohio an early 18-0 lead.
Kagan Squire fell in the next match, but wins from Noah Forrider, 141, and a major decision by Tywan Claxton, 157, drew the score to 25-6. This put the meet just out of reach for the Jackrabbits with three matches remaining.
Harrison Hightower, 165, then collected a major decision victory for the Bobcats. Cody Walters, 174, finished up the meet with a 3-0 win over John Netting.
Johnson’s pin marked his tenth of the season and he is currently ranked No. 11 in the country according to InterMatWrestle.com
The Bobcats gave up six points for the third time this season. This was also Ohio’s sixth win by more than ten points.
The victory marks Ohio’s fourth consecutive victory going into the Northern Iowa dual. The win also put an end to South Dakota State’s three-game winning streak.
