Marietta Takes Seven-Game Win Streak To Capital
< < Back toThe Marietta Pioneers will travel to Columbus Wednesday night to attempt to extend their seven-game win streak against the Capital Crusaders. The Crusaders are 9-12 this year, 6-8 in the OAC. Marietta is 17-4, and currently sits at second place in the OAC.
Marietta and Capital met nearly a month ago in Marietta. The Pioneers were able to capture a 10-point victory from the Crusaders. The area where Marietta was strong in that game was in the point. The Pioneers strung together 36 points in the paint compared to 26 from Capital.
The Crusaders got a lot of help off their bench in the first meeting. Sophomore Alex English and freshman Curt Geise each dropped 13 points coming off the pine. Geise was 3 of 5 from deep, and knocked down all four free throws that he took. English was 5 of 8 from the floor. These are two Crusaders the Pioneers will be watching.
All signs point to Marietta to continue their win streak, but danger is lurking in Columbus for the conference contending Pioneers. Capital was able to play the Pioneers tough in Marietta, and it’s easy to make the case that the Pioneers only won from home court advantage. Marietta can’t look past their next couple of games to Mt. Union.
One game at a time, and the Marietta Pioneers just might be the OAC conference champ.
