OU’s Scripps College And ODPS Launch New Internship Program
< < Back toOhio University’s Scripps College of Communication is partnering with the Ohio Department of Public Safety on a new internship program.
Beginning this summer, "Communication for a Safer Ohio" will utilize students’ communication skills to make Ohio safer.
Nine interns will be selected per year – three per semester – from within the five different schools within the Scripps College.
Interns will receive payment and will have various duties including social media, video production and a copy writing.
Scripps College Dean Scott Titsworth said the internship provides a new opportunity for students to use their communication skills in the public sector.
"I think the internships with ODPS will be the pinnacle, career-defining moment for some of our students," he said.
John Born, director of the Ohio Department of Public Safety, and an OU almunus, said Scripps students possess a specific set of tool sets ODPS searches for.
"We recognize that both the age group of the students at Ohio University, and also the skill set, particularly of the social media generation, brings a unique opportunity for us not only to provide a benefit for them maybe to prepare them for a career track or experience, but really contributes to our mission of contributing to a safer Ohio," he said.
Online applications will be posted tomorrow, according to ODPS.
