Lady Bulldogs Eliminate Warren From Tournament
< < Back toThe No. 1 seed Athens Lady Bulldogs (22-1, 10-0) captured another sectional title by defeating the No. 5 seed Warren Lady Warriors 64-37 on Saturday afternoon thanks to an overpowering second quarter.
After holding a modest 20-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, Athens shut out Warren in the second quarter outscoring the Warriors 16-0 to take a 36-12 lead into halftime. Warren struggled from the field and shot just 21 percent in the first half.
Athens was paced by Dominique Doseck’s 20 points and four rebounds. The junior went 6 of 14 from the floor and hit six of her eight shots from the foul line.
Olivia Harris totaled 14 points and Hannah DeBruin added 11 to the balanced Bulldog attack.
“We’re a complete team,” Athens head coach Wayne Horsley said. “Everybody we throw on the floor has a lot of diversity. They can all put the ball in the hole. They can all play a little defense and that makes us a tough team.”
Warren’s Victoria Buzzard led the Lady Warriors with nine points and four rebounds and was helped by eight points and five boards off the bench by Taylor Foy.
Athens advances to the district semifinals where they will face No. 2 Miami Trace on Thursday at Southeastern High School.
