ARTS/West, Les Joueurs Noirs Present “The Colored Museum”
< < Back toOn Thursday, March 13, Les Joueurs Noirs will present the first of four performances of George C. Wolfe’s The Colored Museum at ARTS/West.
Wolfe's play is a hilarious, yet discomforting, look at African American identity throughout history, challenging America to look at how assimilation was carried out in the past and how we perpetuate or challenge these assimilating ideologies and systems today.
Les Joueurs Noirs is an independent group of Ohio University student artists who look to explore the human experience through theatrical performance. The Colored Museum is being directed by Kaila Benford.
The organization is currently working with material that observes diverse cultural experiences and looking to expand the type of stories commonly told in American theater by exploring plays, new or old, that express a minority’s point of view. This includes, but is not limited to, race, gender, sexuality and economic inequality.
Show time on March 13 is 6 p.m. Other performance dates and times are Friday, March 14 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 15 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Doors will open 30 minutes prior to the performance time and there will be a suggested donation of $3 at the door for all ages. Visit www.artswest.blogspot.com for details.
