Crews Working Around Clock After Oil Leak In Ohio

UPDATE 2:31 p.m. Officials say a 4-inch pipeline crack caused more than 10,000 gallons of crude oil to leak into a southwestern Ohio nature preserve.
Sunoco Logistics Partners is the primary owner of the pipeline that leaked at the Oak Glen Nature Preserve west of Cincinnati. Company spokesman Jeff Shields said Thursday the U.S. Department of Transportation and others are investigating the cause of the crack.
Crews continue cleaning up the mess from the leak discovered Monday. Officials say about 3,800 gallons of oil and water have been recovered from the leak in a wooded ravine, wetlands, an intermittent stream and a marshy area.
The pipeline is part of Mid-Valley Pipeline Co.'s system running nearly 1,000 miles from Texas to Michigan.
Scores of workers have worked through the night cleaning up oil and building barriers to prevent its spread in a southwest Ohio nature preserve.
Authorities aren't sure how rain falling Wednesday morning will impact efforts that began after a pipeline leak was confirmed early Tuesday. More than 10,000 gallons of crude oil leaked in the Oak Glen Nature Preserve west of Cincinnati before the pipeline was shut off.
Crews have been vacuuming oil from a wetlands area. They also made berms and dug containment ditches. Officials say there is no threat to the public water supply, although the leak was near the Great Miami River.
The pipeline is part of Mid-Valley Pipeline Co.'s system running nearly 1,000 miles from Texas to Michigan. It is primarily owned by Sunoco Logistics Partners.
