Rio Hosts Weekend Series With No. 23 Georgetown College
< < Back to rio-hosts-weekend-series-no-23-georgetown-collegeThe Rio Grande RedStorm (10-14, 3-6 Mid-South Conference) return to action Friday to host No. 23 Georgetown College (17-4, 6-3 MSC) for a three-game series.
After a five game winning streak, the RedStorm has dropped three of its last four games, most recently to West Virginia State Tuesday. Rio Grande fell 3-2 to the NCAA Division II Yellow Jackets.
Ryan Christophel (2-0) will start on the mound for Rio in the 3 p.m. Friday matchup. The junior lefty is holding opponents to a .216 batting average so far this season. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday with David Steel (3-2) projected to start the noon tilt and Eric Ford (0-3) likely to toe the rubber for the series finale.
The RedStorm rotation will look to silence a Georgetown offense that has scored at least five runs in seven of its last 10 games. The Tigers are led at the plate by Martin Lemus. The senior first baseman paces the team in home runs (4), hits (23) and total bases (38).
In addition to the Georgetown series, Rio Grande will continue action Sunday, hosting West Virginia Institute of Technology for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. All games over the weekend will be played at Rio Grande’s Bob Evans Field.
