The Rio Grande RedStorm (17-22, 4-14 Mid-South Conference) will travel to Campbellsville, Ky., this weekend to play games five through seven of their nine-game road trip. They’ll take on MSC foe Campbellsville (21-14, 10-7 MSC) in a three-game series that begins Friday evening.

The RedStorm have won four of their last six games thanks to a heavy dose of offense. Rio Grande has scored an average of 7.8 runs per game in April, three runs more than their season average of 4.8. They have run-ruled two of their opponents in this recent stretch, most recently in a 16-3 victory over Ohio-Lancaster on Tuesday.

Rio will look to slow down a Campbellsville team that has won five straight games and is tied for second in the MSC. The Tigers are led at the plate by Carlos Torres and Jacob Russell. Torres, a junior, is batting an astounding .425 and averages 1.59 hits per game, second in the MSC. Russell boasts a .310 batting average and a team-leading 29 RBIs.

Mike Deitsch (2-4) will start Friday’s game on the mound for the RedStorm. He enters Friday with a 3.88 ERA. David Steele (4-4) and Eric Ford (0-5) will toe the rubber during Saturday’s doubleheader.

First pitch of Friday’s matchup is set for 6 p.m. and Saturday’s doubleheader begins at noon. This weekend’s series will be played at Campbellsville’s HIG Field.
