The four-day music festival Hoopla in the Hills will kick off at its new location at The Venue on Route 56 Thursday and will feature more than 60 acts on various stages.

The family-friendly festival has previously been held at Poston Lake Music Park in Guysville, but organizers switched locations this year to allow for a larger crowd.

Headlining the festival will be Papadosio, who will perform at midnight on both Friday and Saturday. While the band members now hail from Asheville, N.C., the band was first formed in Athens.

Joining Papadosio will be Chris Berry Trio with Michael Kang (of The String Cheese Incident), EOTO, Keller Williams, Ott, ZOOGMA, Cornmeal, Rumpke Mountain Boys (three days), David Gans (three days), Larry Keel & Natural Bridge, Cosby Sweater with Joel Cummins, Moon Hooch and dozens of others.

In addition to the music, the festival will feature artistic talent highlighted in the Artist Village. This will include multiple galleries, stage, installation art, workshops and more.

The festival bills itself as having a family-friendly atmosphere with a children’s play area and adjoining camping area. Children under the age of 15 are admitted at no cost.

Hoopla in the Hills will mark the first time that overnight camping has been offered at The Venue — which has been home to the popular college music festival #fest in recent years. The site has more than 60 acres of fields and gravel roads plus 250 acres of forest, hiking trails and creeks.

Campfires are permitted on the grounds, but no outside firewood will be allowed. Firewood will be sold on site from The Venue. No alcohol will be sold at the festival, but attendees can bring their own alcohol (no glass allowed).

Dogs are permitted at the festival for a $50 fee. Dogs must have current tags, rabies shot and be on a leash at all times.

Cost for the four-day festival is $100 for all four days, $90 for Friday-Sunday, and $60 for Saturday and Sunday. Ticket price includes parking and camping. Gates for Hoopla will open at noon on Thursday. For information, including schedule and full list of performers, visit www.hooplainthehills.com.
