< < Back to nelsonville-man-heading-prison-14-years-burglary-and-moreShane Benson, 33, of Nelsonville was found guilty in Athens Co. Common Pleas court of 18 counts of burglary, two counts of grand theft of a firearm or dangerous ordnance, one count of theft of drugs and one count of trespass in a habitation.
He was sentenced to a total of 14 years in prison and upon release, he will need to complete the SEPTA rehab program and be on three years of mandatory post-release control.
Benson, when he committed the crimes, was on an ankle monitor arrest from Fairfield County, according to Athens County Prosecutor Keller J. Blackburn.
Benson would knock on doors of houses during the day and when there was no answer, he would enter unlocked homes and burglarize them.
“This is a sign of changing times in our community,” Blackburn said.
“Doors can no longer be left unlocked and windows must be shut,” Blackburn warned.
