Brown’s Throw Leads Bobcats In Day One At Vanderbilt

The Ohio track and field team opened the Vanderbilt Black & Gold meet Friday with a strong second place finish in the hammer throw from junior Donyelle Brown.

Brown threw for a personal best 56.31 meters (184 feet, 9.25 inches). This mark is just .30 meters under the Ohio record, which is held by Emily Amendola. Brown was joined in the hammer by junior Janiece Ross, who finished in 10th with a throw of 47.93 meters (157 feet, 3.25 inches).

Triple jumpers Erika Armstead and Olivia Mayfield failed to register a mark in the competition.

In the 200-meter dash, freshman Tajah Smith ran a personal best 26.09, earning her 14th place in the meet. Senior Kara Jackson finished with a time of 26.43 to get the 19th spot.

Competition will start back up Saturday at 10 a.m. with the women’s discus.
