Marietta Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Muskingum
< < Back toThe No. 18 Marietta Pioneers split a doubleheader with Muskingum at Don Schaly Field on Saturday.
Game 1
The Pioneers held a 2-1 lead heading into the top of the sixth until Muskingum drew even in the inning with an RBI double.
Brandon Marczika came through in the clutch for the Muskies, driving in what was eventually the game-winning run with an RBI single with two outs in the top of the eighth.
The Pioneers went scoreless in the final two innings and lost, 3-2.
Marietta’s pitching staff continued with its consistency. The combination of Jason Byers and Jim Luyster combined to give up seven hits and three runs while striking out 11 Muskie batters.
The Pioneer offense could not take advantage of Muskingum’s fielding blunders. The Muskies committed three errors and the Pioneers struck for just one unearned run in the game.
Game 2
The Pioneers trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of sixth, but from that point forward the Pioneer offense exploded.
From the sixth to the eighth inning, Marietta scored 11 runs.
Mike Fulton delivered 3 1/3 shutout innings for the Pioneers to seal the victory and pickup his first win of the season.
Ryan Hanahan had three hits and drove in five runs and was just a homerun short of the cycle to lead the Pioneer offense.
